This map was
first issued by De lisle in 1722 and continued publication
basically unchanged until 1830. One of the most popular of
the 18th century maps it fixed the area to which
the name California was subsequently attached. It was also
the first with Kino’s nomenclature of “Nouvelle Navarre” for
northwestern Mexico. A blank coastline is shown above
Cap Blanc . The map has very detailed geographic names
and is the first edition with light outline color, verso
blank. The condition is rated Very Good [see our rating
criteria on the Home Page] with only light foxing noted
along the bottom of the map not affecting the subject
matter. The map measures approximately (23.5" x 19.0"
