(1825-1888) was an accomplished land surveyor and
mathematician. He joined the firm of Samuel Barret Cushing
of Boston and in 1846 became a partner. In 1850 became a
surveyor of towns in New England and established his own
company in 1852. One of his first publications was this map
of Middlesex County. Used by land development companies, the
map has 69 inserts of towns, 7 vignettes of public
buildings, 5 inserts of town directories and statistical
tables. Names of land and homeowners are provided, e.g.
notable individuals such as Emerson and Hawthorne in the

rollers, the map has some damage to the upper right portion
caused by the cracking of varnish covering from the cloth
backing. The remaining sections of the map are in good
condition. It measures approximately (61.8"x 61.8" - 157.0
x 157. 0 cm). $950. ($26 shipping / handling / ins.)
