Schedel’s
Nuremberg Chronicles’ were published in two editions;
Latin and German, both in 1493; appearing just before
Christopher Columbus discoveries completely re-shaped
the European view of the known world. This magnificent
work presented the history of the world in a pictorial
encyclopedia with some 285 pages of text and over 1800
woodcut illustrations. This particular woodcut sheet of
Latin text relates to the lineage of Delbora, wife of
Cain on the right and Old Testament figures on the
left. The verso has mythological figures of Hercules,
Hector, Agamemnon, Menelaeus, Helena, and Paris. The
text was complied and edited by Schedel, printed Anton
Koberger, with illustrations designed by Michael
Wohlgemuth and Willem Pleydenwurff. The five hundred
year old print is rated Excellent with no apparent flaws
other than a small worm hole in the margin, not
affecting the printed areas. It measures approximately
(9.0" x 13.0" - 22.9 x 33.1 cm). With a Certificate of
