The Naming of America, a 128-page hardcover publication has some 40 color illustrations.  The book was published by the Library of Congress in conjunction with the London firm of D. Giles, Ltd.  An in depth discussion of the 1507 Martin Waldseemuller World Map is the first known map to display the name “America”.  The map was purchase by the U. S. Library of Congress in 2003. The book tells the story of the map’s creation in 16th century France and its rediscovery some 300 years later in the library of Wolfegg Castle in Germany.
