11.00 Prints of the Federal City, c1856 Represented in these masterfully engraved prints are 13 of the most interesting landmarks as envisioned in 1856. Many of the engravings represent original designs for buildings and monuments that never became reality. An example is the Washington Monument; identified in the print as the "National Monument" depicting the design of Robert Mills of South Carolina, a protégée of Thomas Jefferson. Mills was the first native born American architect. The prints are re-strikes taken from the copperplate engravings of the Albert Boschke Map of the City of Washington - Seat of the Federal Government, dated 1857. Each print measures approximately 5.0" x 6.0" inches in size. Each limited print offering is inscribed: entered according to an Act of Congress in the year 1856 in the Clerks Office of the District of Columbia. Prints are available for $6. each, limited to not more than six (6) per order. They may be purchased framed in a solid wood gold color ornate frame, with glass and matted. Framed prints are available at $26.00 each.(Shipping/handling ins. Prints only $4.50 - framed $10.50):
