120.09 - Carte Generale des Etats Unis de l’Amerique Septentrionale, Renfermant Aussi Quelques Provinces Angloises .... ca 1797, by Pierre Francois Tardieu, Paris
A fairly detailed map of the United States with fourteen states and their capitals named. The map extends south to include the Isles Lucayes (Bahamas) then westward to include the extent of the nation to the Mississippi River. The boundaries of the western states are not defined. Canadian eastern regions are shown. Good topographic detail is noted along the coastline with a few forts in the west. The map appeared in the Atlas Universel de Geographie Physique et Politique .. Tardieu family of French engravers used a confusing range of signatures for their work which makes it difficult to assign this particular map. Pierre Francois often signed his name in honor of his uncle by the same name. The map is rated Excellent [see our rating criteria on the Home Page] with a dark impression on watermarked paper and wide margins. Some light foxing is noted in the blank areas of the map. It measures approximately (16.8″ x 12.8″ – 42.7 x 32.6 cm).
