801.10 - “Global Map for Global War and Global Peace”, 1943, by Aluminum Company of America (Alcoa)
The map is contained in a pamphlet issued by the Alcoa organization. It was designed on a north polar projection to demonstrate “the fact that the aeroplane changes our old earth-bound ideas as a map…… the air is a universal highway”. Text provides an explanation of the commonly seen Mercator projection and a polar projection and how this effects flying. The border includes airplane insignia for various nations and the verso is filled with other illustrations of both “friendly” as well as “enemy” aircraft. Noted are the insignias of the U. S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. The map in full color and rated Excellent [see our rating criteria on the Home Page] with no flaws seen. It measures approximately (23.9″ x 33.4″ – 60.7 x 84.8 cm).
