570.14 Atlas National Ilustre' Departments....de la France (1845- 1864) by Victor Levasseur, Cartographer

The Atlas National Ilustre' des 86 Departments et des Possessions De La France was produced by Victor Levasseur a 19th century cartographer who distinguished himself with striking embellishments surrounding the maps of the 'departments' of France.  These illustrations included scene of French history, countryside, products (particularly those areas of France bearing the names of some of the world's finest wines), and other related activities indigenous to each department.  Each print offered is a dark impression finely engraved and printed on heavy paper.  Each print measures approximately [12.1" x 17.1"] accompanied with a Certificate of Authenticity inscribed with the purchasers name and country.  Each print is priced at $65. USD.  Shipping and handling cost within the continental U.S. is $10.50 for up to 6 maps purchased at the same time.  All the maps offered in this series are rated Very Good.  Please see the rating criteria on the Home Page for full explanation.  Many of the maps are in either outline or full body color.    Listed below are the maps available: 

570.99 Dept. De L'Ain, c1844

The map includes part of the French Alps.  The city of Bourg is near the center.  The production of cheese, in including Bleu de Gex is a leading product of the region

570.100   Dept De L'Aube, c1864

 

The map illustrates the vineyards in the far south of Aube which produce Rose des Riceys; one of France's leading rose wines.  Beautiful vignette frame the map depicting the wine making trade.   The map is rated Very Good [see the rating criteria on the Home Page].    ***SOLD***

570.110   Dept des Brush du Rhone, c1864

 

The map covers Marseilles, and scenic areas of Provence, including Arles and Aix-en Provence.  This region is where Van Gogh and Cezanne did most of their painting.   ***SOLD***

570.115   De La Charente, c1858

 

Now known as (Charente - Maritime), the region is a leading producer of claret wines.  Also depicted, is the fishing port of New Rochelle.  The map is elaborately embellished with scenes of the region and is rated Very Good [see the rating criteria on the Home Page].   ***SOLD***

570.117 Dept. Des Cotes Du Nord, c1859

 

The map covers a section of northern Brittany with its picturesque fishing villages which have been captured in the vignette surrounding the map which is in color and rated Very Good [see our rating criteria on the Home Page].

570.130  Dept Gard, c1864

The map depicts the region of France known for its fine Armagnac liqueur.  The cathedral city of Auch is depicted near the center of the map.  Condition is Very Good [see rating criteria - Home Page].

570.132   Dept De L'Eure, c1859

 

Embellished with hunting scenes, the village of Giverny is shown and is the home of Claude Monet (his depiction is captured in the vignette on the left side of the map).  Rated Very Good [see the rating criteria on the Home Page] the map is one of the most elegant of the series.

570.144 Dept de Saone et Loire, c1864

 

The map covers part of the Burgundy wine region which produces superb white and red wines.    ***SOLD***

570.146 Dept. De la Meurthe, c1847
The map depicts Nancy near the center as part of the Province of Meurthe (now Meurthe-et-Moselle). Light color depicts the districts. Some fine vineyards are located in this region of France. Condition is very good.

Cahors red wine, considered the best in southwest France, nest to Bordeaux, is produced around the region of the town by the same name.  Condition is Very Good [see rating criteria - Home Page].   ***SOLD***

The map includes Epernay, the country's leading champagne producing region, and Reims, site of a great Gothic cathedral.  Condition is Very Good [see rating criteria - Home Page]. ***SOLD***

The map depicts the region of France that produces fine Gruyere cheeses.  Includes scenic areas of the Alps.  Condition is Very Good [see rating criteria - Home Page].

570.155 Dept Du Cher, c1858

 

Includes Sancerre, celebrated for its white wine.  Bourges is shown, the site of the Cathedral of St. Etienne.  The cathedral is well known for it's 13th century stained glass windows.  The map is rated Very Good [see the rating criteria on the Home Page].    ***SOLD***

570.162   Dept De LA Manche, c1864

 

The map in includes much of Normandy and Cherbourg as well as the famous island-abbey of Mont St. Michel.  The maps vignette illustrates a harbor view and ships at anchor.  The map is rated Very Good [see the rating criteria on the Home page]

570.171   Dept. De La Haute Loire, c1845

The city of LePuy depicted on the map is the location of the French lace making industry.  The decorative title cartouche portrays Lafayette.

570.175   Dept Du Loiret, c1859

 

The map covers the great city of Orleans, liberated from the English by Jeanne d'Arc who appears in the decorative vignette at the top of the map.  Other embellishments include depictions of the farmland and industry of the region.  The map is rated Very Good in outline color [see the rating criteria on the Home Page].   ***SOLD***

The map encompasses part of Burgundy and includes the town of Chablis, namesake to one of the most well known of the French wines.  Beautiful border vignettes highlight this map; rated Very Good [see our rating criteria on the Home Page].    ***SOLD***

The map includes part of southern Normandy known for the excellent Camembert-type cheese.  Also, depicted on the map is the town of Alencon known for its French lace-making industry.  The map is rated Very Good [see the rating criteria on the Home Page].
